How to avoid the dreaded weiner dog...
A lot of ideas and suggestions are being tossed around on how to avoid this little fellow..
Have you seen him? He tells you your page is too long and to go back and shorten your page
and then when you go back...all your hard work since the last save is gone!!!!
Well, since I started "cleaning up" my HTML coding I have not seen this little fellow
And as the manager of an animated gif site, a personal family site, a dirtbike racing site and this help site.. I have a lot of LONG pages....
Here are some examples of how to clean up your pages!!
Save often, experiment on what you need and don't need...
and remember your Page may not be too long... but your HTML might be!!
When you change your font colors, size etc. and you use several images and move them
around, add links then move them, or other "changes" to your pages, a lot of excess coding
will make your page much longer than necessary although to you it looks just right
The excess coding can be what makes the dreaded weiner dog show up and refuse to save your page.... Here are some comparisons on what I did to "clean up" my pages...Notice how much smaller the "after" coding is....
Here I changed font colors several times, this left a lot of "junk" font tags, even before the
IMG tag..images do not need a font color...
Before
After
Here I added several images, then centered them... so my coding looked like this:
Before
Any spaces after center P align=center can be deleted... and any spaces before /P
This one is a little more complicated but if you experiment with your coding you will get the hang of it... Any time you hit the space bar, it takes up 5 places in the HTML coding, so any wasted spaces takes up a LOT of room!!
After
If you move an image that is also a link...
The link will move with it but it will also leave a duplicate in the original place...minus the image
Before
After
Well, I hope this gives you an idea on how to do this...If you need more help please post on the ask/answer board..I will try to help you further
