EXPANSION FACTS

  • The outside of the new building will replicate the old building.
  • The interior of the new building will continue to represent the details contained in the current building.
  • The new building will not be higher than the current building.
  • There will be a handicapped entrance from the parking lot to both buildings and continuing into the patio.
  • There will be two phases of construction.
  • Phase I will be on the west side; Library and Research Center, Office and a climate controlled storage room. The Library will be utilized as a meeting-lecture facility until Phase II is completed.
  • Phase I will encompass 1,640 square feet.
  • Phase II will be on the south side; Assembly-Lecture Hall and Kitchen.
  • The Phase II building will have handicapped access to and from Cottonwood and the patio.
  • Phase II will encompass 1,440 square feet.
  • Once complete the configuration of the Old Schoolhouse Museum will be in the shape of a "U". In the center of the "U" will be an outdoor patio for meetings, summer lectures and Barbecues.
  • The patio will be enclosed with a low sitting wall and a gate.
  • The current library will move into the new Library-Research Center. The microfilm station for "Desert Trail" research will be set up in the Library-Research Center.
  • The current office and all the files in the classroom will move into the new office space. Both computers and other office machines will be in the new office space.
  • The current office space will become a storage room and office for the gift shop.
  • The classroom will then return to a Classroom Exhibit.
  • The Climate-Controlled Storage room will contain all artifacts not on display, Desert Trail newspapers, paintings, clothing, maps, certain fragile and non-replaceable photographs and books.
  • The new Assembly-Lecture Hall load limits will be in excess of 150 people.
  • The new Kitchen will be 360 square feet and far superior to the tiny room now called ‘kitchen.’
  • Both Phase I and Phase II and the patio will be Handicapped Accessible.
  • The estimated cost is $70.00 per square foot.
