Historical Society Logo

A new outdoor metal sign will now greet visitors to the Old Schoolhouse Museum. The sign was made by artist Kit Brooks from an original design by the late Don Malone, long time art instructor at Twentynine Palms High School and what is now Copper Mountain College in Joshua Tree. The Olla represents the original Native American inhabitants of the Oasis, the Windmill symbol is for the homesteaders who settled the area which became the nucleus of Twentynine Palms, while the gold pan represents the early miners  who came seeking the earth's mineral riches.

Four former presidents of the Twentynine Palms Historical Society were at the dedication of the new sign near the museum entrance. (L-R) Jim Wharff, Pat Rimmington, Dana Bowden and Gene Ludwig.
