What is the difference between an MSN nickname and a Guest nickname?
An MSN nickname is a registered nickname that is reserved for your exclusive use in MSN Chat and other MSN services. To get an MSN nickname, you need to have a Passport account. To use your MSN nickname in Chat, you need to sign in using your Passport sign-in name and password.
A Guest nickname is the name you give yourself when signing in to MSN Chat as a guest. Your guest nickname is your temporary identity while you are chatting.

How To Whisper (Private Message):
Double Click on the persons name you wish to talk privately to, you will get a separate small 'whisper box', type in this box instead of the main screen, and this conversation will be held only between you and the person to whom you are whispering.

If you click "Options" just above, and to the left of the list of people in the chat room, you can change your font. The size of the text, turn sound's off, and so on.

What do the different symbols in the member list mean?
The image you see before a nickname indicates that person's status in the chat.
Sysop or Guide. This person is either an MSN system operator or guide.
Owner. This person created the chat room. Or as we call it the manager of the room.
Host. This person was given host status by the room's creator or by an MSN system operator. Hosts can kick other members out of the chat room and can change the status of anyone in the room.
Personal Profile. This person has a personal profile that you can view. To
see it, click the person's nickname and then click the View Profile button
located beneath the member list.
Away. This person is temporarily away from the chat room. (In their coffee cup)
Ignored. You are currently blocking the messages this person sends or whispers.
Tagged. You have "tagged" this person to make it easier to keep track of his or her messages and activities in the chat room. This is especially useful in crowded, busy rooms.
Spectator. This person can see the conversation but cannot participate. This status is primarily used in MSN special event chats.
