Aaliyah Aaliyah was born ''Aaliyah Dana Haughton'' on January 16th 1979,in Brooklyn,(NY). Aged five, her family moved from her birthplace Brooklyn and settled down in Detroit(Michigan) where Aaliyah spent most of her youth.While growin up,Aaliyah did a lot of singing, but she didn't realize her potential til the tender age of 6, when she auditioned for a role in ,'Annie' in her elementary school play. though Aaliyah played a small role (she played a young orphan) the play sparked her interest in becoming an entertainer and putted her on her path to the achievement of her dream,the road was tough, and like alot of other young artist starting in the business, She started auditioning and performing in alot of places,any opportunity given,in the hope someone would give her her first break.And that brake came,once she participated to the show 'star search' and performed her own rendition of Chaka Khan's ''my funny Valentine''  Aaliyah didn't win the competition,But She would remember this as a learning experience for her future as a performer.The next big show for Aaliyah came at the age of 11,Aaliyah got an opportunity to sing with Gladys Knight's troupe on a Las Vegas stage,this would be an experience she would  always remember.Aaliyah appeared on to the music scene in 1994 with her debut single called 'Back and Forth' and her debut album ''age ain't nothing but a number'' with productions by R.Kelly .'Back and Forth' climed to the top of the Billboard's R&B Single charts! Aaliyah always led the game, with her fresh,new sound and her great style!  Aaliyah got in contact with  producer/singer R. Kelly ,this marked a major change in her career (R. Kelly was introduced to Aaliyah through her uncle Barry (Hankerson) who was then R. Kelly's manager). From there on, R. Kelly would help Aaliyah make her  impressive debut album,entitled: Age Ain't Nothing But a Number. This album made Aaliyah the international star she was.the album got two gold singles and a platinum album. Three years went by,and left many fans wondering when the next album would drop. In 1997, Aaliyah finally came out with the impressive album entitled One In a Million. The album,wich featured numerous producers and artists as: Timbaland, Missy Elliot, Kay-Gee and superproducer Jermaine Dupri, proved Aaliyah's growth and maturity. One In a Million, went double platinum. from that moment on, Aaliyah has been getting achievements everywhere. Her song from the Anastasia soundtrack led her to an Oscar nomination and an opportunity to perform the song on the Oscar night. the single 'Are You That Somebody' from the doctor dolittle soundtrack, became the summer hit of the year 1998. And 1999 was literally the Aaliyah year, she made her successful acting debut in the movie' Romeo Must Die', alongside Jet Li.and the single 'Try Again' from the Romeo Must Die soundtrack,became the first song to hit #1 on the Billboard 100 Singles Charts based only on Airplay.  In 2001,Aaliyah came back with her unexpected,and self titled album, ''Aaliyah'',full of hits like ''more than a woman'' or ''we need a resolution'' produced by super producer and friend,Timbaland.After shooting the video for ''rock the boat'' her third single of the album ''Aaliyah'' ,in the Bahamas,The plane Aaliyah was in,crashed,and the young performer/actress,died tragically,at the young age of 22.
