| Custom Page Backups! "What's A Backup" Ever lose an entire Custom Community page that you spent hours creating, to the inconsiderateness of the MSN Community Server? Well now you can eliminate that tragedy by BACKING UP all of your custom - created pages. You do this by simply copying the HTML code of each page to Notepad and saving it as a new file. Now if you ever lose a custom-created page, you can easily repaste it back into your community in a flash! NOTE: THIS PROCESS WILL NOT WORK FOR YOUR COMMUNITY'S PHOTO ALBUM, FILE-CABINET, CALENDER OR ANY OTHER COMMUNITY PAGE YOU DID NOT CREATE YOURSELF.
Custom Page Back-Up Procedure:
-
Open NOTEPAD. Start/Accessories/Notepad. Minimize it.
-
Click on the custom page you want to back-up. Select "EDIT THIS PAGE".
-
At the bottom of the Page Builder Editor, click the box that says Use HTML to create your page - Edit the HTML Formatting Commands Directly.
-
Place the cursor at the top left (very beginning of page).
-
Press SHIFT then the DOWN arrow key to select (highlight) all the html code. Press CTRL-C. This will copy the code into your Clipboard.
-
Maximize NOTEPAD (from the bottom taskbar).
-
Press CTRL-V. This will copy the code onto the screen.
-
Click FILE. Choose SAVE AS. Pick or create a new folder to save the file in. Name it something like CMA Home Page, or the previous name of the page.
-
Click SAVE. That's All There Is To It! Now You Have An Exact Copy Of The Custom Page You Created!
To Copy The Page Back Into Your Community. -
Click on Manager Tools/Create A Custom Page.
-
Open the HTML Editor portion of your Page Builder.
-
Open Notepad.
-
Open the File of the page you want to replace.
-
Copy and Paste the code into your new custom page.
-
Switch back to the regular editing mode of the Page Builder then SAVE. You should now have the same original page that you lost. Keep in mind, however, that your new page has a new URL. You may have to go back to your other pages and alter the links that lead to that page. If your original page suddenly reappears, delete the copy out of your community, or hide it in case you need it again. "That's It!" Thanks For Taking Another CMA Tutorial!
