There's an easy way to escape from a total Windows system freeze-up, without having to restart or reset your computer. You can do this by initiating a "Local Reboot". Many applications will freeze your system (including ones from being online - like communities) when the application tries to access memory areas that are temporarily unavailable. You can escape the freeze-up by pressing CTRL-ALT-DEL. In the box that appears you should see the name of a current running application with these words next to it (Not Responding). For instance, if you're at CMA and you're system suddenly freezes, you might press CTRL-ALT-DEL and see this at the top of the listing: "Community Managers Association (Not Responding)". That tells you that your browser has frozen trying to acccess the MSN communities program (a memory error). If you see that "Not Responding" message on any application listed, go down to the button that says "END TASK" and click it. This should "unfreeze" your system immediately. When you do (especially if it's an online program that's "Not Responding") your browser will immediately be shutdown. You'll have to re-open it, but at least you won't have to do a total restart. So remember to try out the "Local Reboot" option before you panic and force yourself into an unecessary shutdown.
