Crisis Buster ~~~~~ ( Quick Fix it While on the Go) The easiest way to control stress is to breathe effectively. If we breathe slowly and rythmically, we set up the the conditions, both emotional and physical for our bodies and minds to relax. The Japanese and Chinese have been doing this for centuries, as have most of the Asian people. So how do we breathe? If we have been singers it is not a problem. All we have to do is to remember to breathe down to the bottom of our stomachs. This means that when we breathe in our stomachs go out. This takes some practice. However, after a while, we find that we are breathing much more slowly and that we feel less hassled. We can modify this exercise to use as a real crisis tension buster. All we do is: * breathe out * take four deep breaths ( remember stomach breathing ) * hold each breath for 5 seconds * then, when /as we breathe each breath out after the 5 second hold, we say "relax" quietly to ourselves and let the muscles of our bodies relax. If you practise this exercise a few times each day, you will find that when you use it in a crisis, (e.g. an anxiety attack) you will manage it easily and you will also feel less stressed.
