Carl Linnaeus (1707-1778)

Linnaeus was born in 1707 in southern Sweden, From the beginning of his life, Carol showed a keen interest in plants and their names. He started studies in the field of medicine but quickly turned to botany, his true love. He put together expeditions to study the plants and animals of Lapland and central Sweden. Eventually he completed his medical degree and also created a classification scheme for the plant and animal kingdoms. As more and more plant and animal specimens were collected, his chart of classifications grew.

His work of organizing the biological world into kingdoms, families, species, etc. is still being used today. Because of his work, scientists today can refer to an animal by a specific name and it is understood worldwide.
