If you are receiving unwanted group messages to your e-mail inbox, this setting can be easily disabled thru "Member Tools".  Whether you choose to make your email addy available to the group is up to you, simply check or uncheck that box.  I do recommend the other settings as I have circled below.  You must first start at Member Tools.  The bottom link on the sideboard.
