Tools Of The Craft
By: Unknown

ALTAR: A special flat surface used specifically for magical workings and rituals.

AMULET: A magically charged object which deflects specific, usually negative energies. It is generally a protective object.

ATHAME: A ritual knife that has a double edge blade and a black handle. It is used for directing personal power.

BELL: This is used to mark the geginning and end of a spell or ritual, to invoke the Goddess, to ward off evil spirits, and to invoke good energies.

BOLLINE: This is a white handled knife used in rituals to cut herbs, etc.

BOOK OF SHADOWS: This is a collection of information such as rituals, spell, prayers, chants, magical lore, etc.

BROOM: A broom is a purifier. It is used to cleanse the magic circle and to "sweep away" negative energies that build up where humans live.

CAULDRON: The cauldron is a "pot" used for cooking and brew making. It should be made of iron, stand on 3 legs and it's opening should be smaller than it's widest part.

CENSER: A censer is an incense burner. A heat proof container used to burn incense.

CRYSTAL SPHERE: This is a crystal "ball" that can be placed on the altar to represent the Goddess. It is also used for scrying. Periodic exposure to moonlight will enhance it's abilities to spark our psychic powers.

LABRYS: A double-headed axe which symbolized the Goddess in ancient Crete. It is still used today be some Wiccans for the same purpose.

PENDULUM: THis is a string with a heavy object, such as a quartz crystal at the end of it. It is used for divination. The string is held in your hand and your elbow rests on a table or flat surface. A question is asked. The movement of the crystals swing determines the answer to the question. A rotating swing indicates a positive answer and a back and forth swing indicates a negative answer.

PENTACLE: A pentacle is a ritual object which is circular and made of wood, clay, metal, etc. It represents the element of earth. A Pentagram (five-pointed star) is usually inscribed on it with paint or engraving.

RUNES: Runes are stick-like symbols, which when drawn, painted, traced, or visualized, release specific energies. See the Rune section for more detailed description.

TALISMAN: An object, such as a crystal, ritually charged with power to attract a specific force or energy to its bearer.

WAND: A wand is used for invocation, to direct energy, to draw magical symbols, to stir a brew in a cauldron, etc. It can be made out of any type of wood and can be decorated with magical symbols and crystals.
