Welcome to the Philadelphia-area Kettlebell Club. We are a small group of individuals who workout with kettlebells, sandbags, and other powerlifting tools. We are advocates of the "Russian Kettlebell Challenge", and "Power to the People", authored by Pavel Tsatsouline. Our next meeting is at in Media, Pa., on Saturday, November 23rd, and is hosted by Terry Mc Carthy.  Our first meeting was June 2nd of 2002, and have  maintained our goal of meeting at least once per month.We have appeared on Comcast SportsNet in Philadelphia on June 6 & 7, during the "Summer Stops"  segment of their programs, "Toyota SportsNite", "Cingular Wireless SportsRise" and "Peco SportsDay". While we were on for a quick minute, we got the message out to let the world know that kettlbells are making a comeback, and they're extremely effective for maintaining excellent physical condition.

On Sunday, December 22nd, the group worked out in Newfield, N.J. at Noopy's along Route 40. Dave, Steve, Marty, Jason, Terry and myself got together for a couple of hours of training, discussion and experimentation.  Some of our members are planning strategy to prepare for a Kettlebell competition in May, 2003, in Fredericksburg, Va. Snatch, Clean & Jerks were tested for form, reps, and weight. Steve knocked off 23 snatches with a 2 pood, and Dave tamed the bulldogs, pressing a pair of 2.5s for reps.

It seems we've all been bitten by the injury bug. At our last meeting, Dave heard and felt a pop in his elbow that is just now coming around. Jason has some neck and shoulder problems. As for me, I've been bothered what appears to be a pinched nerve in the lower back. The workout yesterday was a cautious one for me, but it felt good, and in the outdoors of the farm lands of South Jersey, it was even more effective with the sun and temps in the Upper 40s.

Also, congratulations to Marty, who is about to enter the Air Force. A four year-hitch that'll pretty much end his participation in the group. But he will always be a member, and we will do bent presses in his place.
