| BURREBREDE 3 cups flour ½ cup superfine sugar 2 teaspoons cinnamon ½ teaspoon ground cardamom ½ teaspoon ground ginger ¾ teaspoon allspice ½ teaspoon salt 1 cup room temperature butter Preheat the oven to 350º. In small bowl, combine sugar, spices and salt. Divide mixture in half. In medium-sized bowl, thoroughly combine the flour and one-half of the spice mixture. With fingers, work the butter into the flour mixture, bit by bit. When mixture resembles coarse meal, press into 8" square pan. Score the surface of the batter t make 2 x 1" fingers. Make several shallow fork pricks on each finger. Evenly sprinkle reserved sugar-spice mixture over the batter. Bake one hour or less until firm and yellow, but not brown. |
