Breathe deeply and slowly focus your attention on your feet. Breathe in, hold your breath and clench your toes. Breath in slowly and again hold your breath, this time clenching the muscles in your lower legs, then relax. Continue to do this until you have relaxed your entire body. Also clear your mind. Try visualizing something very relaxing and comfortable to you. The more relaxed you are, the better the odds that you will succeed.
To conduct the experiment you will need people to select the sites, people to visit these sites and act as senders, and also the viewers, as well as an independent judge.
Select a pool of 20 target sites. These sites should be selected by someone who is unconnected with the session. The details of each site, directions, map references, key features, and landmarks, should be written on a card, and each card placed in an envelope, which is then sealed. Each site should consist of features that are visually strong and unique.
Select one envelope to use as a main target site. The envelope should be selected at random by someone impartial and then given to the sender. Agree to a start and finish time. When the sender is out of sight from the viewer, he/she should open the envelope, then go to the target site and wait for the appointed time. At that time the sender should concentrate on sending impressions of the site to the receiver. The sender should make notes and sketches of the target site before leaving. At the same time the viewer should write down and/or draw what he/she can sense. Prior to the senders return, viewer should sign and date notes. Then they should be handed to another person. No feedback should take place until all the notes have been signed, dated, and given to another person.
The judge should be someone with no other connection to the session. The judge should be given the target site envelope, plus any four of the others in the target pool to act as controls. The judge must not know which contains the actual target site. He/She will be asked to compare the descriptions and/or sketches given by the viewer with that of the target site. Then the judge should decide which is more accurate.
