| This is one of the most important techniques a budding psychic can learn, and a perfect first step for those who are not sure they are psychic but would like to try and find out. Everyone and everything comes from and is a part of the Cosmic energy that generates our reality. It is the source energy of all. Tapping that energy on a conscious level means opening up your psychic abilities so you can use them in a practical way in your daily life. It means being in tune with and aware of your instincts for the good of yourself and those around you. Since this energy is everywhere, we are constantly bombarded by other people's thoughts and emotions. Generally, we are aware of this only on a subconscious level, but it can cause great tensions. The basic first step in discovering your own psychic ability is learning how to shield; to eliminate the clutter from the Cosmic Field. To use your psychic talents you have to open up, but in doing so you become more vulnerable to the scattershot from others, so rule one is shielding. A shield is created by a mental vision and can take any form that suits you personally. Sit quietly and think of something that will make you feel completely secure from any intrusion. There is no limit to the forms that will work. Use your imagination until you find the one that feels absolutely right for you. Here are a few ideas that may help you find yours: a mesh, like a net that lets in positive thoughts, emotions and energies but automatically closes and blocks anything negative; a capsule that has a window that does the same thing; a coat of armor. When you decide on the form you want, set it on automatic so it becomes a part of you, then watch what happens. You should begin to feel freer, less tense and wary on the energy level because you don't have to instinctively keep blocking outside intrusions. Shielding is basic to the conscious use of psychic abilities. Children are particularly susceptible to emotional energy clutter, so if you have children you might want to consider playing a game with them that teaches them how to shield. Exercise #1 Mental Skyscraper Excursion Imagine that you are standing in front of an infinitely tall skyscraper that represents your mind. Look up. You are unable to see the top of the building; it disappears into the clouds and beyond. You know your mind is endless just like this skyscraper. Now walk into the ground floor and look around. You see many office doors. One is labeled "self-procreation." Others are labeled "food," "shelter," "safety," "procreation." As you look at all of the doors you realize that this ground floor of your mind is concerned with the basic necessities of life and survival. You are very familiar with this floor (level). Across the lobby you see two elevator doors side by side. One is labeled "down only" and the other "up only." Walk over to the elevator marked "down only" and enter the elevator. Allow the elevator to descend to the basement. Allow the door to open, but do not leave the elevator. Just peer through the door. You see doors labeled "greed," "violence," "hatred," "pride." You can see many more doors equally undesirable labels. You realize that this is your lower self. You realize that you have been in this level many times in the past, and you are too familiar with this level. You do not like it here. You can feel the negative vibrations, and vow never to return. Now close the elevator door and lock the entrance to this basement level. Drop the key down the crack between the elevator and the elevator shaft. The key immediately falls down the shaft. You are not able to retrieve it. Allow the elevator to return to your ground floor. Exit the elevator. Turn around and close the door and place a large, powerful, unbreakable lock on the door. You will not use this "down" elevator again. Now enter the "up" elevator and allow it to go to your first floor (level). Open the unlock door and walk down the hallway and observe the doors on this first level. One is labeled "dreams," another "hunches." You are familiar with these labeled doors. You have been there before. You also see many unlabeled doors; you have not yet experienced what is behind these doors. Return to the elevator and go up to the second level. The door here is locked. You are unable to see what is on this level. You determine in your mind to find a key for the lock so you will one day be able to open the door. Return now to your ground floor. You realize you have a greater awareness of yourself. You know you have a lower nature, which you never again wish to experience. You know you have some awareness of a higher self. You also know that you have hundreds of levels of higher self that you have not yet unlocked. You vow to find a way to unlock those higher levels and experience them. Walk outside and gaze up once again at the skyscraper of your mind. Note how immeasurably tall it is. You have completed a mini-excursion in your mind. Exercise #2 Basic Colors Sit quietly in a place where you will not be disturbed. If there is a telephone nearby, take it off the hook while doing this visualization exercise. The exercise takes only a couple of minutes, although you can continue longer if you wish. Close your eyes. Take three deeps breaths to relax. Visualize yourself holding seven balloons on separate strings: a red one, an orange one, a yellow one, a green one, a blue one, an indigo (dark blue) one, and a violet one. One at a time releases the balloons. Allow each one to float up and out of your mental sight. You can release them in any order you wish. When you have released them all, open your eyes. Repeat this exercise as often as you wish. If you have difficulty creating color, do not fret about it. Label the balloons with the words red, orange, yellow, and so forth, and tell yourself these are the colors. If you have any difficulty visualizing at all, just pretend that you have the balloons. Tell yourself the color and name each one to yourself as you release it.
Exercise #3 Deeper Relaxation Sit quietly in a place where you will not be disturbed. If there is a telephone nearby, take it off the hook. Close your eyes and visualize the sun resting on top of your head. Visualize the number 3 in the center of the sun. Allow the sun to move downward through your body, warming and relaxing your body as it goes. Fell the warmth and relaxation. When the sun reaches your toes, allow it to leave them. Then visualize another sun, with the number 2 in it, resting on the top of your head. Allow sun number 2 to move downward through your body and exit through your toes, just as sun number 3 did. Feel the warmth and relaxation. Then visualize another sun, with the number 1 in its center, resting on the top of your head. Allow the sun number 1 to move downward through your body and exit your toes just as the other two suns did. Feel the total relaxation now. Say to yourself, "From now on all I need to do to reach this relaxed psychic level is to close my eyes and mentally count from three down to one. Open your eyes. In this session you achieved several important things. You programmed your mind so that whenever you close your eyes and count down from three to one you will reach a satisfactory psychic level.
