Samuel R. Ball dies Sunday; is buried Tuesday Funeral services for Samuel Richard Ball, 62, who died at the New Cornelia hospital Sunday after a short illness, were held Tuesday at 4 p.m. from the First Baptist church. The Rev. Clovis Hibbard officiated. Burial was in the Ajo cemetery. Mr. Ball was born May 5, 1914, in Marysville, Ohio. He came to Ajo in September of 1945. He married Dorothy Blake here July 3, 1951. He was employed by Phelps Dodge Corporation as a foreman. He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; six sons, James Ball and David Ball of Huntington, W.Va., and Melvin and Glenn Blake of Kearney and Bob Blake of Superior; one daughter, Darla Ball of Phoenix; two sisters, Pluma Gibson of Midland, Mich., and Marcella Estep of Chesapeake, O., seventeen grandchildren and two great grandchildren. One daughter, Vernie Johnson, predeceased him. Arrangements were by Musgrave Mortuary. -- New Cornelia Hospital was operated by Phelps Dodge in Ajo; it closed about twenty years ago.
