A- See above.
B- IF contacted by Msn or a © holder to remove an image used incorrectly by a member, to remove the image post haste.
Period.
These are all you are required to do. To do more is placing an extra burden on yourselves and your members. Of course as a group manager you are able to make whatever rules you like, such as only images from the groups permission list may be used, etc. One rule that has become popular is the requirement of a © and credit on every image used. This practice opens a can of worms. To place a © sign on a Public Domain image, or to mis-credit a © is a violation of federal law of a magnitude larger than the simple use of an image outside of an artists TOU. This rule invites disaster. If this rule is published on your site, you have now, in essence, committed yourself to be sure that every image has the proper credit to the proper © holder and that no PD images are being used. You legally place an extra burden of compliance on yourself.
Ever wonder why one has a hard time getting an answer out of Msn about issues? It is because they are very careful to be as vague as possible and to only police groups up to the extent that the law requires. To do more sets a precedent and makes them more culpable in the event of a violation of some sort. Ever see an image you thought 'might' or even 'probably' was being used wrong and deleted it with the message that it was somehow used illegally? That could be slander and could get your group shut down or worse. Not deleting the image cannot, (unless the artist or Msn request you to and you refuse). *(If you delete an image being used improperly, be sure to only explain why in email to the member that posted it, and use words like, 'I think' or 'Might have been'.)
If a member posts an image with the wrong © information and you miss it, and you have a history of policing your group for © violations, you have now made yourself responsible and an accessory to the mis-use of that image by your precedent. While this would have no effect on your group being deleted, it would make you LEGALLY culpable.
It is NOT a group managers responsibility to police ©.
Nor is it a wise thing to do beyond the legal requirement.
Also it is not fair to your members. Let them be adults.
DO Educate, DO NOT Police
