A very good morning, afternoon or evening to you, wherever you are! How's everybody doing? Since Bill Haley & The Comets came up with "Rock Around The Clock" in 1955, rock and roll has become the music that unites the world! America gave it to the world, and the world gave it back with different accents. In the 1950s, Elvis, Chuck Berry, Neil Sedaka, Sam Cooke and Jerry Lee Lewis were among the pioneers of rock and roll. In the 1960s, the Beatles and the Rolling Stones brought forth the British invasion. In the 1970s, the Australian invasion was led by Olivia Newton John and INXS. In the 1980s, the punk wave swept the world with groups like The Sex Pistols, the Ramones and X-Ray Specs. Ireland started roaring in that decade, as well, with groups like U2, the Cranberries and the Saw Doctors. In the 1990s, groups like Nirvana, Soundgarden, the Indigo Girls and Prodigy moved the genre into new and uncharted territories. And today, groups like Flogging Molly, the Dropkick Murphys and Counting Crows continue the excitement that rock and roll has given to the world. But in the 1950s, rock and roll was seen as a voice of protest and a "contributing factor to our juvenille delinquency of today." Many cities banned rock and roll, but it conquered America and the world. This is the reason why this group exists-to celebrate the legacy of rock and roll, honor its pioneers and showcase the talent of today and tomorrow. I invite you to join me as we celebrate this wonderful genre. Rock and roll forever! |
