Second Degree Initiation

The Initiate is bound and blindfolded outside the NE Quadrant of the Circle.  An Assistant is with her.  The Initiator performs the Lesser Banishing Ritual of the Pentagram.

Placing a blade on the chest of the Initiate, the Initiator says:

     "You have successfully passed the tests of the first degree.  Art thou ready to pass the final test?"

Initiate answers.

Initiator:

     "For, truly, it would be better to rush upon my blade and perish then to attempt the passage with fear in your heart."

Assistant "pushes" the Initiate into the Circle.  The Circle is closed.

The Initiate kneels before the altar.  A bell is rung three times. 

The Initiate is lightly scourged 3 times, 7 times, 9 times, and 21 times.

Initiator:

     "The law of Karma states that what you receive, you shall give threefold."

The blindfolded is removed from the Initiate.

Initiate lightly scourges the Initiator 9 times, 21 times, 27 times, and 63 times.

The Initiator anoints the Initiate with oil in the form of a pentagram. (First on the abdomen, then the left chest, then the right hip, then the left hip, and finally on the right chest.)

The Initiator anoints the Initiate with wine in the form of a pentagram.

The Initiator anoints the Initiate with five kisses in the form of a pentagram.

The Initiate is taken to the East. 

The Initiator says:

     "Ye Lords...I do present to thee, {name}, newly initiated High Priest/ess."

This is repeated at the South, West, and North.

The Initiate is given the Fivefold Kiss, and presented with the Sword, Athame, Cup, Wand, Pentacle, Cords, White-Hilted Knife, and Scourge, as in the First Degree Ritual.

The Initiator says:

     "So Mote it Be."

The Initiate has now been accepted as High Priestess or High Priest, passing the Second Degree of Initiation Ritual. She/He is now entitled to branch off their coven, and has the tools to Initiate others into their Circle.
