There are 13 basic goals of a witch that I try to follow. They are:
Know yourself
Know your craft
Learn
Apply knowledge with wisdom
Keep your words in good order
Keep your thoughts in good order
Meditate
Achieve balance
Celebrate life
Eat and breathe correctly
Excercise the body
Attune with the cycles of the earth
Honour the god and goddess
The first goal is to know yourself. Know your likes and dislikes, where you've been, where you are now and where you want to go in life. Try and spend some time by yourself thinking about who you really are and what your dreams are and how these are going to be achieved, even if its the few minutes your in the shower.
Know your craft. Whatever your craft may be, whether it is strega, glamour, druidry, wicca or your own special path, learn all about it. Read, write, do spells or get someone who is more experienced to teach you all the secrets.
The third goal is learn. Learning is important in every aspect of life. History, chemisty, biology, english, religion they can all reap benefits for those who learn about them. Strive to learn something knew everyday, even if it is the meaning of a word or how ferns reproduce, you never know when you may need knowledge.
You shouldn't use your knowledge for wrong. Use the wisdom inside you to decide what to do with your learning. Everything has a place and time, think things through and let 'your consciounce be your guide.'
Keep your words in good order. At times this is tough, even for the most angelic and 'pure'. Everyone has good points and bad points, try to look toward the good instead of the bad.
Keep your thoughts in good order. This is also tough, but again look towards the good points, acknowledge the bad but dont dwell on them. Negativity has a way of ruining friendships and opportunities.
Learn to meditate, get rid of all your stress and built of pressure from your body. Meditation relaxes your body and your spirit, helps your breathing and increases your learning. Meditation also helps you to astral project easier.
Achieving balance. Balance in life is balancing the enjoyable with the less appealing. Get out and do what you desire but also do those you needn't want to do.
Celebrate life - however life is going at the time. Life is a rollercoaster and you just need to go with it, theres ups and downs but at the end of it, its a hell of a ride! Everyday is a blessing, dont take it for granted, live everyday as it were your last.
Eating and breathing is important for a healthy mind and body. Fruit and vegies, bread, dairy products and meat are all good for you, so eat 'em up. Breathing correctly is also important. Your shoulders shouldnt go up and down at all, they should stay still the whole time and your stomach should move in and out with each breath - this is giving your lungs a good amount of air. Try breathing in through your nose and out through your mouth, this will get rid of all the dirt from the air around you.
Excercise the body. Get out and go for a run or a swim, even walk around the block or do yoga. Whatever you do, just keep your body healthy, after all its the only physical one you have in this lifetime....
Attune with the cycles of the earth. Each of the eight cycles of the earth represents a stage in life. From birth until death, there is growing loving, mourning and renewal. So find out which cycle is in place and celebrate the cycle as it is a stage in your life as well.
Honour the god and goddess whoever they may be, learn from them, and believe in them as they watch over you.
