....Triva at its best!
Ray wrote in about Melissa's numbers jacket: Melissa's numbers jacket was available in the short lived clothing company (name unknown) that marketed "thirtysomething" clothes shortly after the show went off the air. Gary's letter jacket, Elliot's sliver pins, hula girl ties, and the black shirts and jackets with blue thirtysomething letters. Could have been done by Patrick Norris....there was an actual catalog.
Sandy wrote about various Ts trivia:I had seen all of those mentioned here except for Hope's "here not." I caught that myself and thought it was so funny that the TS production team
didn't catch it (or Mel herself) and fix it. That one really stuck out! Not to be TOO anal about this but --- anyone remember Hope questioning Michael at the hospital about Gary, and asking "I don't know why he's here not?" OR - Gary & Woodman riding their bikes past a PALM tree in born to be Mild?? Is that SOUTHPhilly? OR - Elliot & Michael leaving Philadelphia City Hall (YO, it's YOUR Arts>Center!), which has the seal of the city of Burbank in the lobby? OR -
The clapper for Elliot's commercial that says "Thirtysomething" on it in going limp????
Cyndie wrote about the Felicity TS crossovers: Did anyone catch the series finale of "Felicity" last night. They are amazing. They wrote their friend Noah's death announcement the EXACT same way as Gary's. was sitting, watching with my eyes wide open, jaw probably wide open too
as> it happened. Here's how it went.... Felicity checks her phone messages
because she and Ben are expecting Noah. A puzzled but serious look crosses
her face as she scrambles for a pencil and jots down a phone number. She
calls the police station and asks for an officer -----. The one-sided
conversation between her and the officer was the EXACT same as the one
Michael had with his officer down to the "what?"...silence...then, "that's
what I thought you said." more silence and staring into space as she
listened more. Then, in walks Ben with a snack for her, remember Hope's candy
bars?! Felicity then went on, in Michael fashion to say how she got a call from
an officer, and there was a fire and how they have to go to the station to
pick up his things. I'm telling you all, it was AMAZINGLY similar. I didn't
see if any of the writers were the same but I've never ever seen anything like
it before! Was it a tribute in some way? Was it coincidental? I don't think so. Someone out there please say you saw it too so I know I wasn't imagining it!!!
Amy wrote about the art work in Nancy's book: I sent some information about the artist for "Whose Forest Is This" to our list a year or so ago. His name is Michael Hague. Here's some biographical data from various Internet sources. p.s. a bit of trivia: Which one of Hague's influences (from below) also garnered mention in the first season of "thirtysomething"? Describe the character (who mentioned this name) and the situation in which it was mentioned.
Davideo wrote this about Ellyn's mother's name: I've posted this before, but it's still my favorite 30s oddity (other than Janey's lack of speech): In "We Gather Together," Ellyn tells Hope at the gym that her reason for wanting to do Thanksgiving at Steadman Place is because of her mother, "Adele". The following season, when we meet Mom (Betsy Blair) in "No Promises" and "Payment Due," she is called"Marjorie" ( middle name"Ann," alternately by some other middle name I forget). Two seasons later, presumably because Betsy Blair either died or wasn't available, NuMom
(Lois Smith) arrives to bust up Ellyn and Billy's "fat-face" fight in "Our Wedding," and Billy greets her as "Elaine." It is a most curious lapse of continuity, not to mention that NuMomElaine completely retells Ellyn the story of how/why she married Dad (in different words), which OldMomMarjorie had already done (unforgettably) at the end of "No Promises". Shades of Ethel Mae/Roberta Mertz, née Potter (they never forgot her).
