In the mid 1980`s the late Mr K Mollett started a breeding program with the aim of creating a healthier Bulldog than the type seen in the show ring (kennel club). He had many critics but he persisted with his vision of producing a healthier Bulldog. This line he created is known as the Victorian Bulldog. The VB is more active than the show type variety, he enjoys walks with his owner & likes to play. The VB also has a happy friendly temperament..
The VBF is a small UK based group of Victorian Bulldog enthusiasts. Founded "January 2003" with the aim of promoting our Victorian Bulldogs & offering advice/help via the internet..
"VBF DIRECTION & ASPIRATIONS"
The VBF`s main objective being the advancement and improvement of the Victorian Bulldog through selective breeding. Our aim is to get general recognition of the Victorian Bulldog which their founder the late Ken Mollett justly deserves credit for, whether it be from the public as a whole or the major canine leagues.
The VBF`s direction is aimed towards producing and setting the type that was known in the Victorian period as "The Philo-Kuon". This type was produced after the abolition of Bull Baiting. The fanciers of this time, scaled down the aggression in the breed and started to breed for a certain type/look, circa 1865-1899. This was the early form of show Bulldog and many examples can be seen in the book "The Bulldog" a monograph 1899. These were higher on the leg and with less exaggerated features compared to the modern form of show Bulldog.
The founders of the VBF believe that breeding a litter of Victorian Bulldogs should only be carried out in an effort to improve the breed. Breeding is a responsibility and finding puppies good permanent homes is of paramount importance. We encourage all affiliated breeders to strive to produce quality rather than quantity. We recommend breeding stock be of general good health and sound temperament prior to breeding. Members must be ethical when venturing into breeding a litter, they should have good general knowledge on family of dogs/bitches being used. No direct inbreeding of brother/sister, son/mother, father/daughter, without prior approval of the VBF. Never should a bitch be bred 1st season or 3 seasons in a row. With a view to managing the breed we expect breeders to maintain an interest in the development/welfare of their Victorian Bulldogs.

Please Note:
The VBF Victorian Bulldog standard for size & weight has been altered from the original standard set out by Ken Mollett 10 years ago. When original standard was set it was NOT seen as a blueprint, but more of a standard for that era, considering the breeds used in the creation of the Victorian Bulldog the size of the dogs should stabilize the further the program progresses. Thus the amendment in standard reflects this bringing the dogs closer in size of which they were meant to represent in the Victorian era.
Soundness should not be sacrificed by size. It is well documented that in every breed not all dogs will fit standard this will not deter from the fact the dog is still a VB.
If breeding a litter of VB, s it is advisable to breed from 2 dogs fitting or as close to new standard as possible. This will help in the development of the VBF program.
Males without two testicles clearly descended will not be bred from.
Owners of females whom have required a caesarean must notify the VBF.
