This is to define the poor example (Frederick Douglass) you had used to define some type of fictional leading African American "learning at the feet of a white slave master", note; in your example, money is the master, and, a skin color based theology which inextricably places a white skin color above human capability.

There is a lot more history to this slave mentality today. 

Ex: Mis-charachterization by subhuman "N" word pejorative is propagated openly by; Black racist federal police agents, black lawyers, black skinned felons, public school athletic departments (D.C./MD.), most African foriegners, the D.C. State Democractic Party Chairs and most American blackface entertainers.

The latter, more comedic simple unfair race baiting is none the less not artful.

Moreover, more younger and older musicians/artists embellish illicit thuggery and meyhem as craft. Where-in, the reality is that, no thug takes acting classes nor traines to act in a Broadway play in subcharacter. True thugs use many American pejoritives, not just the "n" word which today it seems that only black actors embellish it's disgraceful utterence. Even millionaire thugs cannot speak bad english well, much less an explanative vocabulary sufficiently to their victims, racist thugs define victims as "n"s.

The following is modern American history of untoward NegroDumb Negrophillia catalyzing blackface racism into American education for all stripes to benefit private enterprise not colegate scholarship.

Booker T. Washington, 1856-1915
 
["Born a slave on a small farm in the Virginia backcountry, he moved with his family after emancipation to work in the salt furnaces and coal mines of West Virginia. After a secondary education at Hampton Institute, he taught an upgraded school and experimented briefly with the study of law and the ministry, but a teaching position at Hampton decided his future career. In 1881 he founded Tuskegee Normal and Industrial Institute on the Hampton model in the Black Belt of Alabama.
 
He convinced southern white employers and governors that Tuskegee offered an education that would keep blacks "down on the farm" and in the trades. To prospective northern donors and particularly the new self- made millionaires such as Rockefeller and Carnegie he promised the inculcation of the Protestant work ethic. To blacks living within the limited horizons of the post- Reconstruction South, Washington held out industrial education as the means of escape from the web of sharecropping and debt and the achievement of attainable, petit-bourgeois goals of self-employment, landownership, and small business.
 
Washington offered black acquiescence in disfranchisement and social segregation if whites would encourage black progress in economic and educational opportunity.
 
Washington kept his white following by conservative policies and moderate utterances, but he faced growing black and white liberal opposition in the Niagara Movement (1905-9) and the NAACP (1909-), groups demanding civil rights and encouraging protest in response to white aggressions such as lynchings, disfranchisement, and segregation laws. Washington successfully fended off these critics, often by underhanded means.

Not of great surprise to me is another fact: 

• D.C. politic mostly African American who have no knowledge of D.C. African American history; now prove incapable administrators and  progenitors contributing "N" pejoratives attributing slander to heterosexual young black boys?
• Is there something written about antebellum public school education?
• Do you have any idea why D.C. politic preference historically favor African American homosexuals over heterosexuals?

Historically, In 1868 an African American segregationist and a major supporter of Domestic slavery, a  boll weever* (Democratic Party) patron, a 19th Century D.C. Culinary was instrumental establishing ex-slavery prostitution at the Wormley House for Anti-property rights for ex-slaves and took part as a black orchestrating boll weevil* Jim Crow into the 13th Amendment (parts struck down) leaving antebellum ex-slaves landless. 

Do you know who James Wormley is? Hint, check DC history......
