Four Principles of Pan From Mac James Book on Pan
- When you receive a hit to your hand, never meld more than the minimum number of cards necessary to complete a valid spread.
- Refuse a card which would play on a pat rope in your hand if your discard is more valuable.
- Three-of-a-kind are more valuable than ropes in making a hand work fast.
- When discarding from a three-card combination which could be made into a rope or three-of-a-kind, select the card which prevents the player in front of you from taking a card you need.
