Using EIGHT PLAY; SEVEN WITH PAY I value the hand playable -- seven working cards and a pay. (Four Queens work, A-2-3 is a working pay.) I am first; I go. Four other players, including two very good ones, jump in behind me, and the five-man game is on. This can prove expensive if I dont put it out.
My very first draw is the AS. So I immediately meld AS AS AC. No more pat for one of AC 2C 3C. I discard the 5S. I have done what is called putting a pat in jail, by taking a pay spread from my hand, using part of it to form a non-pay spread. Im hoping now, of course, for any other Ace. I can then take the AC off the three-of-a-kind, which has grown to four, leaving three Aces and meld my pay rope. After paying out four chips to the other players for pay spreads they have made, I catch the best card in the deck for me -- AS. It gives me two different pays at once! AS AS AS, worth two, and the pay I put in jail comes out and I get one more for AC 2C 3C. I throw away the 7C. I have four good Queens left in my hand; Im flat and the opponents dont know it! I pay out three more chips to other players as one of the really good players goes flat. Then I catch my third -- and last -- hit. The lovely lady - QS. I have gone out in Spades. Look what the hand is worth!
