Member Promotions - MSN Groups Only
v
I agree to the Promo rules
Welcome to our Member Promo message board.

Members may promote only their MSN Groups on this board. Promoting on other boards (i.e. the General board) are subject to deletion and possible banning of the offender.

Management reserves the right to remove any post.  Please do not confuse Web Design with a democracy.  It is our personal group, just like you may have your own personal group on MSN.

Just a few rules to observe:
  • Only MSN Groups sites may be promoted, no non-MSN sites are permitted, and please use only the http://groups.msn.com/YourGroupName url link in your promo - do NOT use the email address of your group or the /join link.
  • Only G-Rated Groups - foul language, nasty subject matter, naughty graphics, etc. on your site will guarantee deletion of your promo.
  • Do Not promote Adult Groups - They are not G-Rated and they are not Public. (Some people still seem to have trouble with understanding that an Adult or Mature Group is not G-Rated, Public.)
  • Only publically accessable Groups (public/public restricted settings) - No private Groups please as subject content can not be verified family-safe.
  • Do not promote groups which break the rules - this included mis-classified groups as well as those linking to sites which break the ToU and CoC for MSN. Don't ask us to promote your breaking the rules, it's tacky and a sure way to get your group reported.
  • Do not bump your promo more than once per day.
  • Comments on other's promos are permitted, but please be nice, or at least helpful - that means no insults and no promoting your Group in their thread.
  • Bumps disguised as "comments" will cause the promo to be deleted.
  • Keep your subjects to one line and do not use all-caps (ALL CAPS INDICATE YELLING).
For those Private or Mature rated Groups who feel you have something to offer people of all ages but have a special reason or concern for why you need these ratings, please apply to the management before attempting to promote here at the G-Rated Web Design.

We'll take a look, give you a smiley face sticker saying it's ok and then you and your sticker can promote here."

Tips:
  • Do not promote a newly created Group. If it has little unique content, you will only discourage visitors from returning. Stockpile it with goodies and give them a reason to stay before promoting.
  • Do not post something that causes the page to side-scroll (800 x 600 pixels). If it does, delete your post and one of the managers will delete that thread.
  • Do not include large file size graphics (over 35 kb) - You want your promo to load quickly so people will look at it.
  • Do not use graphics from a private site - others will only see red x's on your promo.
  • Create your promo on a custom page and then test it first by posting it to your own message board first. Work out the kinks before you go public here.
  • Make your subject line something memorable and related to the subject matter of your group. Thousands of "Hey, look at this!" subjects will not attract a visitor.
  • Insure that your hypertext links are active and clickable before sending. You may also wish to include a straight text version of your link for surfers who have disabled HTML or graphics.
  • Do not use your "Join" link nor the "Chat" link or any other "member's-only" link. This only frustrates visitors and guarantees they'll leave, since you are more interested in wasting their time playing games. Your promo may also get deleted if management does not catch the slight difference in the member's-only message, since private groups are removed.
  • If you have a promotion thread, stick to it. Seeing 100 bumps for the same thread over time indicates a manager who cares. Seeing 100 repetitive threads with one post in each just makes it look like there are hundreds of similar Groups.
