Rites of passage:
As Wiccans we celebrate many things in our lives. There are also rites of passage associated with growing older znd more knowledgable in ones craft.
Wiccanning (sealing,naming and blessing) Done before 7th year and every year after until year 14
Puberty Done 14th year.
Coming of Age Done 21st year
Handfasting (Marriage ceremony)
Leadership Done 28th or 56th year
Other rites of passage include initiation whether it be self initiation or into that of a coven.
There are several degree of initiates, First second and third degree.
First Degree: dedicated and practiced anywhere from nine months to a year and one day.
Second Degree: 3 years practicing, mastering of one psychic ability,completion of a vision quest, assisting in a birthing (be it human or animal) , sustained leadership of a study group for 12 months, having a food store(enough for one year) agreement to raise no more than 3 others to second degree within the next 5 years.
Third Degree: 10 years or more or craft practice( These people are you elder.council,high priest.ess type people)
Basic initiation ritual ( can be preformed by ones self or a coven) You will need a small bit of oil or a favorite perfume/cologne
(After casting circle/calling quarters or sealing sacred space)
Touch eyelids with a drop of oil on finger and say :
Let my/thy eyes see only beauty and Let me witness honesty
Touch each ear and say:
Let me/thine eyes hear the truth as it were
Touch each nostril and say
Let my/thy breath of life be for good
Touch lips and say
Let me/thine speak only truth and kindness
Touch heart and say
Let my/thine heart live only for good
Touch about genitals and say
Let my/thine life-creating be only for good
Touch rear and say
Let me/thee remain healthy to do good work
Touch both hands and say
Let my/thine hands be gentle and do good work
Touch both feet and say
Let my feet walk the path of growth and knowledge
Turn around once clockwise and say
(Deity/patron) , witness now my intent to commit myself and my life to good honor and growth in the ways of the craft. Recognize that I am human and that I will make mistakes and learnand grow from them. Guide me in which ways I should go and shield me should I stray. So let it/mote it be!
