There have been numerous popular artists that have entertained Lagoon guests for decades. From the big bands in the 1930s & 40s to the rock & roll bands of the 50s & 60s, many people remember Lagoon for the great performers that appeared at various venues around the park. THE BEACH BOYS Date: 7 Sep 1963, 1964, 1965, 1966, 1968, 1969, 1970 Location: Patio Gardens (1963-66?), Opera House (1968-70?) Notes: I heard one time that the Beach Boys played their first concert here with the help of a Salt Lake City radio DJ. A poster advertising one of their concerts at Lagoon was recently sold on eBay for over $400! THE MONKEES Date: 1968, 12 Aug 1986 Location: Lagoon Stadium Notes: 1986 Concert Report by FS Member, goldbadger: "The Monkees concert was held at the Old Stadium where Top Eliminator and Double Thunder are now. The concert was great. I remember there were two times to watch the concert 6pm and 8pm. I went to the 6pm one. The line to get into the stadium extended all the way out to Pioneer Village....I couldn't believe it!!! They had the Grass Roots and Herman's Hermits performing with them. They were all on their 20th anniversary tour...I used to have newspaper clippings of that concert but time took its toll. As I was watching the concert I remember looking over at some of the rides next to the Stadium like the Flying Carpet and the Paratroopers. It was cool...I was 14 and this was my first Real Concert ...at Lagoon even." DAN SEALS Date: 12 Jul 1988 Location: Notes: Performed twice in the same day. THE DOORS Date: 1967 & 1968 Location: Patio Gardens in 1967 & Opera House in 1968 THE FOUR FRESHMEN Date: 1957, 1958, 1959, 1960, 1961, 6 Sep 1963, 1964, 1966, 1967, 1968 Location: Patio Gardens HERMAN'S HERMITS Date: 9 Jul 1966, 1967, 1968, 12 Aug 1986 Location: Notes: They performed with The Monkees in 1986. The 1967 concert may have been the one at the Terrace on 19 July. JANIS JOPLIN Date: 20 Jul 1968 Location: Lagoon Opera House THE JIMI HENDRIX EXPERIENCE Date: 30 Aug 1968 Location: Lagoon Opera House THE MAMAS & THE PAPAS Date: 23 Jul 1988 Location: Notes: Appeared as part of the "Nostalgia Music Series". ROLLING STONES Date: 23 Jul 1966 Location: Patio Gardens SHEDAISY Date: 1980s or 1990s Location: Notes: A popular country group from Magna, Utah performed here long before they rose to fame. THREE DOG NIGHT Date: 5 Sep 1988 Location: Notes: Gave 2 concerts in the same day.
