The Haunted Shack once stood about where the concessions at Carousel Plaza stand today. It was basically a walk-through attraction with many features you might find in a standard fun house or dark ride. I'm guessing since Carousel Plaza opened in 1981 that the Haunted Shack was probably removed the year before, but it could have been earlier.
MEMORIES
Here's what Steve from Moreno Valley, CA remembers:
"I recall as a youngster in the middle and late 60s seeing the Haunted Shack. All that I clearly remember is that it featured a hall of mirrors at the conclusion on the ground floor. I remember vaguely climbing stairs and walking through a series of rooms upstairs and then possibly going down a slide to the mirrors on the bottom floor. I was always afraid that I would never be able to find my way out but it was not nearly as difficult as I feared."
Robert Johnson provides a few more details about his memories of the Haunted Shack:
"The entrance to the Haunted Shack had two sets of stairs that went up. They moved up and down in alternating directions as you climbed. Once you got to the top you went through a couple of narrow hallways that had window holes that you looked through and saw some fairly tame haunted scenes (nowhere near as detailed as Terroride or Dracula's Castle).
The second thing that I remember most is that at some point upstairs you came 'outside' on a deck that had approximately four haunted figures. You could see these figures from outside the ride and you could see the people passing through the attraction. After that, there were a couple more hallways and then you could either go down the spiral slide into the mirror maze or you could take the chicken exit (which I think was just a stairway down to the maze).
It was easy to make it through the maze if you watched the tiles on the floor because you could easily see the color difference. This was the only way I could find my way out."
