Opened: 1956 (renamed Kiddie Land in 1985) Size: About 1.5 acres HISTORY & INFO Many people still have vivid memories of Mother Gooseland and some still refer to the area by that name. But when Puff The Little Fire Dragon was added in 1985, the area was renamed Kiddie Land. The only reminder of the "theme" of the area is the old shoe and even that is closed. There were many elements of nursery rhymes placed throughout the area. There was Peter Peter's Pumpkin Shell, The Old Woman's Shoe, Jack & Jill's Hill and the Hickory Dickory Clock. There may have been other things as well, along with alphabet building blocks scattered around as decorations. A visitor to the website, known as "aparkfan" shared this memory about the Wishing Well: "There was a hill with a well on top, and slides down one side, behind the main restrooms. This was part of the Mother Gooseland, and had the story of Jack & Jill, so my siblings and I called it the Jack & Jill hill. It would have been around the area where the Moonraker is now." Now the only thing that remains, besides a few of the old rides is the Old Woman's shoe which is no longer open to children. CLOSED MOTHER GOOSELAND RIDES & ATTRACTIONS MOTHER GOOSELAND RIDES STILL OPERATING PHOTOS Photo: Lagoon Above is a postcard showing the Old Woman's shoe in what were probably the original colors. According to people who remember being small enough to go inside, you could go in and climb up to the top and look out the windows. It has been closed for a very long time. Some time between 1996 and 2001, they put up a little stage in front of it where a clown used to perform for children. Photo: Lagoon An old postcard from the 1960s shows the old pumpkin. The signs say, "Refreshments" on the left & "Treasure Chest" on the right. The sign inside says "Treasure Chest of Toys 15¢". The sign in the center quotes part of the nursery rhyme "Peter, Peter Pumpkin Eater, had a wife and couldn't keep her". In the background you can see the old Kiddie Coaster. It's been said that this pumpkin once sat in the middle of the Kiddie Coaster as part of the Hi-Land Playland. An old photo of the big shoe with the Carousel in the background. I haven't found the name of this ride yet. If you know more about it, please email me. This picture from 1973 also shows a mushroom in the background near what is now Carousel Plaza. According to Laura Moncur, who contributed this picture, kids were able to go inside the mushroom. This is not the same mushroom at the entrance of the new Ladybug Bop ride. Thanks to "aparkfan" for information on Mother Gooseland.
