How to Customise Lists

(this page is being redone, check back)

We've all seen these used in communities, both for profiles, links, and a range of things,  many people don't realise that like webpages, you can theme them.

To do this to your lists, you will need 3 windows open, one for this tutorial, one on your list which you want to theme, and a 3rd on the photos you are wishing to use as backgrounds, so get them ready.

To CUSTOMIZE your List, first Create your List.
Then go into your List and click on More, then click on Change the Settings
Now, click on Customize the Details View

You'll see a page come up, just like your post/page edit mode.
Just add whatever you want, a table with a background etc.
Screenshot:

There is a drop down menu there, says "Columns" click on that to
add what will show on the page.  Center things etc... fix it
up just the way you like.  When you are done, click Save.

It will take you back to the Settings page.

Choose "Show Details view as default" and choose how many you want
to show per page (10 - 20 is usual)

Make sure that "Members may edit only those items they added
to the list" is selected.

Item names: name it something like Members or Banner, Link etc..
you can change this anytime.

Click on Save these settings and you are done.

You won't see any changes unless you already have items in your list.
If you do, you'll see that they all now have that pretty background
etc...   if you don't, add something and you'll see that it worked.

Now, another suggestion is to add something to the top of the list,
like a Rules or Terms item, that will always stay at the top.

Here is how:

Add a new item to your list, state your rules (Please link back,
take our banner etc...) After you are done, click on "More".
Under "Default Sort Order" make sure that box is checked:
[] Checking this box will save the current sort order of this list as
the default so that it will appear to all users as you last left it.

This means your "rules" or "terms" addition will stay at the top :)

Good luck! Any questions let us know HERE.  Debbie

PS DO NOT ADD ITEMS TO THIS LIST, THANKS!
