| Below are some steps you can take to help protect your group from trolls entering and stirring up trouble for you and your members.
Set your group on moderation By putting your group on moderation, you can see all of the posts in Pending Messages before they appear on your boards, and by reading through these posts you can catch the ones that may cause trouble on the boards and reject them.
Newbie Approver You can use the newbie approver to validate any email address of applicants before you accept them. You can also email their addy and ask them to accept your rules before allowing them in. If they are for real and they want to be in your group they will gladly email you back.
Back Up Group Create a back up group in a mirror image of your group. If anything would happen to your main group, you now have a place with all your stuff already in place for your members.
Creating Pages In Your Group When creating pages in your group, save all your tiles and graphics to a photo album outside of msn, then save the html for your page on your computer. Should you need to open a new group, you will have all your pages right there on your computer. Once you have added the pages to your new group you will have to go back in to these pages and update all the links as they will become dead links.
Disable Photo Albums Disable your photo albums so no one will be allowed to post anything in them that could get your group shuttered by MSN. You can check albums by looking at your "what's new" page, as new additions to albums will be visible on the lefthand side of your screen, but trolls can out smart this logic by posting the material that they want to get you shuttered, and then they post ok graphics so the bad stuff is covered up, which means you wouldn't see it on the what's new page.
List Pages, Document folders etc. Do not allow members to post anything to list pages. It is so easy for spammers and trolls to post stuff in there without you knowing. This also includes any document folders ect.
Member's Profiles Make the time to look through some of your member's profiles. Check the graphics in their profile to make sure they are ok to use. MSN can and will shutter you for this as well.
Message Boards If you have any hidden and, or unused message boards delete them. Many times managers will over look them thinking they are never used or think they are hidden, but anyone in your group can still see those as well just by clicking on "choose another message board". Try this, you will see that by clicking on that link it will bring up every message board in your group.
Manager's Passwords Have all managers change their passwords every couple of week's, or at least once a month. They may not be able to delete the group by hacking into an asst managers passport, but they can delete pages, or change them for the worst. A good strong password will have not only upper case and lower case but may also have at least one number in it. Just be sure you do not forget what the password is.
MSN's Code Of Conduct & TOU Give your members a link to MSN's Code Of Conduct and TOU, so they can see for themselves that you are only trying to protect them as well as your group. We hope that you have found some information on this page that will help you to keep your group safe from hackers, spammers, and the dreaded trolls. This page created by joyce for MHM.
