Imagery of a Witch has been associated with evil, heathenism, and blasphemy throughout history originating from Christian myths that were created to convert members of the Old Religion to that of the new.
The concept of a Witch was turned into such character to enable the Christian missionaries to attach fear to a word that once had meanings such as Healer, Wise One, Wise man, Wise women and Seer.
These fears are still present. Childhood stories of an old, wrinkled hag with a nasty wart on her nose cling to this imagery. Thoughts of hexes, and devils, and foul incantations chanted around a bubbling cauldron arise. While the modern witches have been known to stir up herbal remedies in a cauldron.
To believe in Satan you would have to believe in the Christian mythos. Wicca does not have any belief in and does not acknowledge a concept of an evil incarnate. All life is seen as constant flow of positive and negative energies, which intertwine to create the balance of life.
