What is Magick?

Magick is finding your connection to the Earth and all that is natural. alive and moving in the universe! It binds all that exists together.

Magick is living in balance with the flow of life, and knowing that u are a vital fource within that flow.  Magick is everwhere! In the trees, rain, stars, and tin the sea.  It is the spar that quicens a seed to rise up from the soil.

Magick is laughter, joy, wonder and truth of the world around us.

It is the subtle enchantment that reminds us not to waste a single moment of this gift that we call life! Magick is not greet, or power, or pretense.  It is real.  It exists. And it works.

Magick is the mystery that lies int he secret soul of th world.  It is the essence of creation.  Waht we imagine, we have the power to create!

Magick is within you...

With it you can create your dreams, heals your world, love your life and find the peace that lives in every human heart.

"Magick is the movement of natural energies to create needed change. Magick is the practice of "rousing" and building up this energy, giving it purpose through visualization, and releasing it to manifest the practitioners need." (Scott Cunningham) Magick is natural. It is not the tricks you see on television. It is everything around you. It is in the plants, animals, minerals, wind, soil, and everywhere! It is also in us.

What is a spell? A spell is a written or spoken formula that, in an act of magick, is intended to cause or influence a particular course of events. Belief in spells has been universal since the beginning of time. They are also closely related to prayers if the practitioner is using a deity. How effective spells are depends solely on the practitioner. Special times such as the full moon are quite common for spell casting. The most important thing a Wiccan considers before a spell is ever cast is intent. Is it necessary to cast one? Can the problem be solved without one? Not every dilemma requires a spell.

Wiccans have an ethics code. This is known as "The Wiccan Rede" which sets out a guide line for using magick. The words, "An it harm none, do what you wilt" means that one is free to do what they wish as long as no one is harmed not even themselves. We are also warned in the Rede that if we do harm to someone it will be returned to us threefold.

A Wiccan (solitary or coven member) casts a circle when a spell is needed. Both a physical and mental circle is drawn. Many tools can be used to do this (an athame, a staff, our finger, or the wand.) A circle is cast to protect the practitioner from outside negative forces. Much concentration and visualization is needed to accomplish this.

When casting a circle, Wiccans call the quarters (directional points) which are marked around the circle with symbolic items or candles. Each point represents the elements (earth/north, air/east, fire/south, water/west) and the fifth element (spirit) is represented by the practitioner. Sometimes a Wiccan needs additional help from a higher power. This is called "High Magick" and works with the God and/or the Goddess.

Raising power through chant, creative visualization, positive thinking, and concentration is essential. An altar is also in the circle. This is where Wiccans put their tools, candles, and symbolic items. Spells are properly worded and many times are written in rhyme. Other tools such as herbs, stones, and oils are also used. Each of these contains their own energy. During spell work, Wiccans release their own energy which helps make the spell go!

Casting a spell is both physically and mentally draining. Once a spell is completed, it is up to the practitioner to do what is necessary physically to acquire success (i.e. put out resumes for a job etc.) It is permissible to use magick for someone else as long as they have given permission to do so. Spells have been cast on people (with permission), animals, and nature.
