Why I do what I do... Last year I took a class called "Graveyards 101" at U of M. I chose the cemetery closest to my heart...where I felt no fear and went to escape the nightmare that was called my childhood. I was fearful of death, having seen many things I shouldn't have. Taking this class made me realize it was a normal reaction and that it evolved over the centuries. Then something happened. While doing my class term project I discovered that my favorite place and only good memory from those years, was grossly neglected. I knew I had to do something. Since June 30, 2004 I have been the leader of the Huron Crusaders, we are cemetery watchdogs. We go around and evaluate cemetery upkeep and if need be contact cities, townships, and families to clean them up. It is our civic duty to make sure that the deceased never lose the respect they deserve. There is no excuse for cemetery neglect. To view my photos of neglected and the few good kept cemeteries, please press "Pictures" on the left menu. We will continue our campaigning and hopefully let everyone know we are out there. And, if you don't do your job, we will let you know it. So please keep eye over your loved ones sacred places! If you ever need my assistance, I am here for you. Jenny Huron Crusaders President Association for Gravestone Studies 2006 Oakley Award Winner!! 2006 Forbes Award Nominee Note: this page was completed for last year's Oakley Award, NOT for 2007. Below are examples of restorations I have done in the past 2 months. I use nothing but hard work, purified water, and soft bristle brushes. As you can see I do pretty good work. Comes from my own 2 hands, and my heart. Thank you!
