Locating Relatives of Leopoldville Victims
Christmas Eve 2004 was the 60th Anniversary of the Leopoldville disaster. On Memorial Day the World War II Memorial in Washington, DC was dedicated. As a result, there was considerable interest by the news media during 2004 regarding World War II stories.
I continue to search for Leopoldville disaster survivors and relatives of soldiers killed in the disaster. In this regard, the new media, newspapers, radio, television news segments, have in the past been extremely helpful in locating families with direct connections to the catastrophe. Since 1994, over 50 newspapers and several radio programs and television news stations have printed articles or aired news segments about the Leopoldville disaster and my efforts to locate the families concerned. From time to time I will print the names of soldiers killed from a particular city from a particular state. I am beginning with the names of the ten soldiers killed from Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. To view the names, go to my pictures page and click on "Locating relatives of victims". I ask the cooperation of the news media in this effort.
