The Gulf.
General America went to war in 1991,
And by his side rode Col Britton acarrying a gun.
They swore in possi members deputizing Captain French
Then they trudged of to the desert sands and stoped to dig a trench.
Ambassadores were sent forth to give Hussain a warning
That he should up and quit Kuwait before the sun next morning.
Dan Rather sounds and looks sincere diseminating news
Arguing the pros and cons of the panoramic views
As diplomatic clocks run down, predictions are fortold
And we are promised victory, providing we are bold
Then the many miles of distance between the Gulf and I
Are negated by the eye on high that round our world does fly..
And I tie a yellow ribbon round the flag of liberty.
As I watch the armies snarling in color on T.V.
Patriots and smart bombs were the heros of the fray
While nameless faceless victims were the humans of the play.
As by the lasers ruby light, electronic missles
Rain down dark death from high above like biblical epistles
The angles of the U.N. law desended from above,
As satalites worked overtime defending those we love.
I watched the world desending into wars deep dark abiss
As wolves of war ran evil fanged and little did they miss
Hussain let loose some oil slicks and set aflame the wells
With bactiria and chemicals he promised us hot hell
The clouds of war rose high above the lower stratosphere
To cause the death of thousands by polluting atmosphere
And we tied our yellow ribbons round the trees of liberty
As we watch prime time desruction, in color on T.V.
THE PATRIOT.
The patriot is tiny in his red, white and blue suit.
His eyes are brigh and shiny and he has a stick to shoot.
He`s following the soldiers on a Christmass day parade,
And as he squares his sholders his parents give proud praise.
The patriot is healthy, as a youth so hale and strong.
His country is so wealthy that he knows it cant be wrong.
They taught him at his high school how to fight and lay the blame.
That compassion was just foolish, by sight a cowards shame.
Fed on meat and potatoes as he learns a man must fight
To make a living. He goes to do what he`s told is right
Patriots in uniform, step singing Fatherland songs,
Ignoring we`re Mother born.
Untill it all goes wrong !!!!!!!
The patriot is wounded in his body and his mind,
When proof of faith unfounded was repaid in common kind
So at the days sad ending as old men share their glories,
Remember that defending depends who tells the stories.
Waltzing Mattilda by "Auzzi" Smith
When I was a young man I carried my pack
And I lived the free life of a rover.
From the Murries green basin to the dusty outback
I waltzed my Mattilda all over.
Then in 1915 my country said "son
Its time to stop rambling coz theres work to be done."
So they gave me a tin hat and they gave me a gun,
And they sent me away to the War.
And the band played "Waltzing Mattilda"
As we sailed away from the Quey
And amidst all the tears and the shouts and the cheers
We sailed of to Gallippoli.
How well I remember that terrible day
When the blood stained the sand and the water.
When how in that Hell that they called "Sovla Bay"
We was butchered like lambs to the slaughter.
Jonny Turk he was ready, he`d primed himself well
He rained us with bullets and showered us with shell
And in five minutes flat he`d blown us all to hell
Nearly blew us right back to Australia.
And the band played "Waltzing Mattilda"
As we stoped to bury our slain,
And as we buried ours the Turks buried theirs
Then we started all over again.
Now those who were living did their best to survive
In that mad world of mud, blood and fire.
And for seven long weeks I kept myself alive
While the corpses around me pilled higher.
Then a big Turkish shell knocked me arse over head
And when I awoke in me Hostpital bed
And saw what it had done ,Christ !! I wished I was dead
Never knew there were worst things than dying.
And no more Ill go waltzing Mattilda,
To the green so far and so near.
For to hang tents and pegs, a man needs two legs
No more "Waltzing Mattilda" for me.
So they collected the cripples the wounded and maimed
And they shiped us back home to Austrailia.
The leggless, the armless, the blind and insane
Those proud wounded heros of Sovla.
And as our ship pulled in to Circular Bay
And I looked at the place where me legs use to be
I thank Christ that theres nobody waiting for me.
To grieve and to mourn and to pity.
And the band played "Waltzing Mattilda"
As they carried us down the gangway.
But nobody cheered, they just stood and stared
Then they turned their faces away.
So now every April I sit on my pourch
And I watch the parade pass before me.
I see my old comrades, how proudly they march
Reliving proud days of past glory.
I see the old men all battered and torn
The forgotten heros of a forgotten war
And the young people ask me what their marching for.
And I ask myself the same question.
And the band plays "Waltzing Mattilda"
And the old men still answer the call.
But year after year, their numbers get fewer
Soon no one will march there at all.
NORTH.(A ballard of)
Ollie North was a soldier with belts and buckles bright
His only life ambition, to always do whats right.
He saw his country had a need that only he could fill.
So he set about his task with keen and cunning will.
To aid the cause of freedom in Nicuragya land
He gathered all around him a deadly Contra Band
The enamy was commies and congress on the hill
And when his back was turned, Bollan stabed him with a bill
A cruel and brutle wounding that hurt brave Ollie sore
For without his funding he could not afford to war.
All his comrades at the front would perish overnight
Betrayed byweak kneed Liberals who are the nations blight
But Ollie was not finished he hatched a daring plan
To get the needed money by dealing with Iran,
And so to meet a mullah, to Paris North took flight
To earn the many millions he needed for his fight
Now the trouble with Iran was, with them we were at war,
And we could not deal with them. it was against the law.
They had taken hostages, our embassy they burned
To never trust a raghead was lesson we had learned.
But Ollie was a sly man with wit and wisdom keen
And he dealt them such a deal as ever as was seen.
He sold them old TOW rockets for which they gladly paid
And promiced to not talk about the deal that they had made
The Contra`s got their money and fought with all their might
And very soon a victory was clear within their sight
But yet again brave Ollie was wounded to the core
When acussed unfairly of disregarding law.
An Arab had betrayed him by spilling to the press
The detailes of the story, the whole illegal mess
And Bolland was now gunning for Col. Ollie`s hide,
While Congress was divided when votes became all tied.
To Washington went Ollie to make his final stand.
To sacrifice his body. A patriotic man !
His back was ramrod straight and his eyes were steely clear
As he pledged alligance to the country he held dear.
His evidencehe gave gave them His orders had been sound
Some times one must bend the rules upon the killing ground
The President had confirmed, The Admiral was told
And no he had no knowledge about the missing gold.
His enermies were callous, they did not choose to beleve
And for our legal system, they did so loudly grieve
They pointed to the pittance that north was forced to keep.
To protect his family, so they could safly sleep.
They said that it was stealing and North was but a crook
And to prove his guilt or not, at pappers they must look.
Then Brave Ollie told them the truth that they had dreaded
That by his own command All documents were shreded.
The Congressmen had promised protection from the law
And Ollie North told the truth. Who could ask for more?
But they used his words against him by turning truth to lies
Insisting on the worst view dispite Norths humble crys.
They branded him a villan, they called him names so vile,
They went back on their promise, they put him up on trial.
A handpicked judge was chosen and jury did they rig.
They planed to find him guilty and send him to the brigg.
The judges name was Gesell, he was a Federal man.
So Ollie got a lawyer by namecalled Sullivan.
he was a legal Eagle who loved Democracy
And he could prove Norths innocents, but only for a fee.
A sum that was collected by passing round a hat.
To Norths pals in industry who were guilty rich and fat.
They never could desert him these high and mighty peers
For if Ollie told the truth theyed all look mighty queer.
This story has an ending that will suprise you all.
Ollie got a reprimand but still he`s walking tall.
He never went to prison, he never paid a dime
He went down in history ,a hero of his time.
His victims all forgotten those folks the Contras killed
There was no restitution, nobody ever billed
Pragmatisum won the day when we threw out the law.
And now I sit and ponder what Democracy is for.....
