Gazing is a form of divination, but is even more than just that. By gazing into a pool of water, mirror, crystal or any other reflective surface, a Witch can enter an altered state and gain access beyond the veil. Because all people have different ways of accessing their altered mind states, you will hear many different gazing techniques.

It has been said that a perfect, flawless globe is necessary for gazing. It is not necessary for a gazing ball to be flawless or a perfect globe to be useful in Gazing. I will divide the techniques into basics so that you will know why such myths exist. The call is yours as to what tool you wish to use in Gazing.
If you ever have had to sit in the corner as a child, staring at a blank wall until you begin to hallucinate and have stories, patterns or images appear, or if you have ever stared at the ceiling while lying in a dark room with these effects, then you have experienced the Ganzfield effect.

Gazing has an occult side. It isn’t how you get to the altered state of mind that is important. The important part of gazing are the mysteries unveiled to you once you are in that state. Interpreting what is seen in this altered state is very much like dream interpretation. You will find many different sources that can “interpret” your visions, but the important part is what it means to you and what you can take from the experience.
A key element in quickly attaining the correct state for gazing is flashing light. (Epileptics should disregard this section. If you eliminate flashing light but keep the gaze similar, you should still be able to gaze.) Place flickering candles around the room you are working in. Keep them out of your direct vision, but be certain that the reflection of the flame can be seen in the gazing surface. To get these flickering candles, open a window a bit to let a draft in, for example. There are also candles available, especially the more inexpensive ones which have a flame that rises and falls rhythmically. These work well with gazing.
