| The Gods weren't just cards you know, they came from Ancient Egypt. read all about their Origin here. The Ritual When Akunamon, Yami's father, sacrificed the souls of 99 people from the village of Kurelna (Village of Thieves) an enormous amount of backup energy was produced. The Millennium Magic Book has written in it that you would need to sacrifice 1 more soul, the 100th, pure and innocent to the Magical Fire. But the priest who performed the ritual, Priest Akunadin, brother of Akunamon, could not interpret the hieroglyphs and did not mention about the final soul. 3 days passed after the Initiation of the Millennium Items, and all seemed well. Except for that on the first day, thunder poured down from the sky. And on the second, night was day and day was night. And on the third day when the world mysteriously turned upside down. The Pharaoh thought that these were just the after-effects of the Initiation, but he was wrong. On the 4th day, 3 unstoppable beasts emerged from nowhere. The God of the sky and earth... The God of light and darkness... and the God of eternal good and evil... The 3 God Monsters...
When game designer, Maximillion J. Pegasus went to Egypt, he found stone tablets of ancient dark duels. He based a Collectible Card Game on these stone tablet recordings and called it Duel Monsters. However, he also created 3 unimaginable cards based on one tablet which the Duel of Destiny was depicted. The giant tablet, the Lithograph, was created by the priest to show his friendship to his cousin, the Pharaoh, after he had mysteriously disappeared. However, above the battle, the engraving of the Millennium Puzzle was surrounded by 3 card engravings... Each of these 3 mythological beasts represented the polarity of the universe. Obelisk represents light and darkness. Slifer represents good and evil. Ra represents earth and sky. Whoever obtains these 3 rare cards, will become forever undefeatable. The person will dominate the world of dueling, and will also gain the title "King of Duelists".
However Pegasus regretted ever making these 3 rare cards. Because the cards, as if with the power of the actual deity living inside them, all had super strong powers. Every single person involved in making these 3 Egyptian God Cards, met with an untimely end, but Pegasus. Whoever obtains these cards can use them for good and for bad. If an evil heart uses these cards, it could even be used to take away someone's life. In games, they could become the ultimate weapon.
Pegasus originally wanted to take care of the cards himself, but he failed, therefore he decided to let these cards sleep forever at where they came from, deep underground at the "Valley of Kings" in Egypt. The Egyptian department of archaeology accepted the job and sealed the 3 cards at 3 locations in Valley of Kings."
However someone stole them out...Rare Hunters, a notorious international rare card thieving organization, stole the cards.
However, 1 card was prevented from being stolen. Ishizu Ishtar, head of the Department of Archaeology of the Egyptian government came to Domino City, and also opened up an Egyptian exhibition at the Domino City museum. She opened up the exhibition because she wanted to reveal where Duel Monsters came from. She believes that these stone tablets have the power of gathering a large group of duelists.
